Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Peter Cynfryn Jones Artistic Director: Gordon Rigby
Òran Mór is delighted to welcome you to this new season of A Concert A Cocktail and A Canapé. This Autumn series concentrates on works by British composers, with a strong presence of the work of Ralph Vaughan Williams, in this the 50th anniversary of his death, alongside works by Tippet, Ireland, Britten, Arnold, Finzi, Glentworth and Delius, and three new commissions from composers working in Scotland. We have concertos from two of the three young finalists of BBC TV’s ‘Classical Star’, Karen Geoghegan and Ian Watt, our usual showcase of young talent in Scotland, with concerts by the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland Strings, a group from the National Youth Choir of Scotland, and Les Sirénes and Academy Brass, both from the RSAMD. The season begins with ‘The Seasons’ and ends appropriately with Respighi’s beautiful work ‘Il Tramonto’ or ‘The Sunset’ , featuring mezzo Carolyn Dobbin. This season we also include a very special bonus concert, where the SPO are joined in an by internationally renowned ‘cellist Karine Georgian, playing Shostakovich’s mighty first concerto.
